Music Theory/Composition Concentration

If you like to create music, you can take lessons in composition just like you can on an instrument or in voice through UIndy's Music Composition Concentration. We have a studio of composers busy creating music in all styles–classical, pop, jazz, rock, electronic, musical theatre, and more.

In addition to participating in composition activities, students in UIndy’s Music Theory Concentration take special electives, and spend time one-on-one with faculty learning how music works and investigating the roles music plays in cultures around the world.

Program Strengths

  • Regular performances of student compositions
  • Guest residencies of internationally-known guest composers
  • Creative collaborations with other college departments including English, Spanish, Art & Design, and Dance for multimedia events
