About the Music Department
The University of Indianapolis Music Department is an urban institution offering the highest quality of instruction and experience to support individual growth in each student. You will engage with first-rate artist-faculty in an intimate setting while developing strong, close-knit relationships with other students in the department and around the university.
Applying to the music program - 2025-26 Audition Dates announced
Acceptance into one of our Music Department requires a separate application and audition process in addition to your application to UIndy. After you have applied for admission to UIndy, click on "Schedule an Audition" via the Music Auditions & Scholarships page. You will be directed to complete an audition application.
First-rate faculty & personal attention
You'll receive individualized instruction from music faculty that features many prominent musicians and teachers of the greater Indianapolis area, including members of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. Through applied lessons and ensemble opportunities, you'll be able to glean instruction from their real-world experience.
The Faculty Artist Concert Series, the most comprehensive recital series in the area, continues to feature compelling presentations of solo repertoire, dynamic readings of great chamber literature, provocative presentations of new works, exhilarating period instrument performances, and distinctive approaches to both classic and contemporary jazz.

As a UIndy music student, you will have the chance to engage with first-rate faculty, experience performances in a world-class concert venue, and connect in a close-knit educational environment, all within minutes of downtown Indianapolis. The Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center's performance hall provides an exquisite, Viennese-style space in which a special acoustic design produces thrilling sound. Close proximity to the downtown area and the Fountain Square district provides a vibrant setting for internship possibilities as well as culturally engaging opportunities for Indianapolis residents and University students alike.

Artists in Residence at UIndy
The Music Department currently has permanent relationships with the Indianapolis-based American Pianists Association, Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Both of these maintain residencies at UIndy, giving various on-campus performances, masterclasses, and open rehearsals each year.
