The Graduate Certificate in Public Relations is designed for individuals seeking to deepen their expertise in media relations, strategic communication, and brand management. Through a combination of theory and practical applications, students will understand and implement key principles in public relations, crisis communications, and event planning/promotions.

Program Length & Format

Students can take courses on a part-time basis, and earn the certificate in as little as 1 year. Live, interactive classes can be taken in the format of the student’s choosing: face-to-face or online, or a combination of both. 

Course Requirements

Students in the Graduate Certificate in Public Relations program must complete 12 credit hours from any of the following courses:

  • COMM 505 Public Relations Ethics (3 credit hours)
  • COMM 506 Strategic Communication Theory (3 credit hours)
  • COMM 507 Public Relations Research and Evaluation (3 credit hours)
  • COMM 515 Crisis Communications (3 credit hours)
  • COMM 516 Graphic Design for Public Relations (3 credit hours)
  • COMM 518 Promotions and Event Planning (3 credit hours)
  • COMM 519 Social Media Management (3 credit hours)
  • COMM 520 Digital Multimedia Production in Public Relations (3 credit hours)

When Can I Start?

Whenever you're ready. The program uses a rolling admissions process, so there is no application deadline. Students enrolling in the Graduate Certificate in Public Relations program have their choice to begin classes during the Fall, Spring or Summer terms.

  • Online application
  • 3.0 undergraduate grade point average (exceptions may be possible; discuss with program director).
  • One-page personal statement about background, career, and/or intellectual interests in PR.
