Through athletic training I was able to work with different athletic teams at many different sites, ranging from middle school to the college setting. Last fall I worked with the Ben Davis High School football team. It was a great learning experience, and I was able to grow the skills that I learned in the classroom.

Mission
The mission of the Master of Science in Athletic Training Program (MSAT) at the University of Indianapolis is to develop qualified healthcare professionals in the field of athletic training. Through rigorous and comprehensive didactic and clinical education encompassing the Domains of Athletic Training, the MSAT strives to stimulate critical thinking and application of athletic training knowledge and clinical skills.
The MSAT will provide students with the knowledge, psychomotor skills, and foundational behaviors of professional practice necessary to succeed as an evidence-based provider of athletic training services. Additionally, the MSAT educates students to allow them to engage in compassionate healthcare. Students who complete the MSAT at the University of Indianapolis will be eligible to become an athletic trainer certified by the Board of Certification.

About the Master of Science in Athletic Training Program
Athletic trainers work with physicians to provide prevention, clinical diagnosis, emergency treatment, therapeutic care and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses. They also prescribe exercise programs or make diet recommendations for better performance and nutrition. In the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program at UIndy, you'll learn advanced, hands-on clinical skills at a rapid rate and integrate those skills in multiple clinical placements.
Program Length & Format
The program consists of 65 credit hours, completed over 2 years (6 semesters, including summers). Coursework involves a combination of classroom learning and clinical experiences.

Clinical Experience
At UIndy, we know it’s important for you to get practical experience early and often in your education. With five clinical rotation semesters built into the curriculum, including three full-time clinical placements, you’ll put core classroom concepts into action.
Certification
Graduates from the athletic training program are eligible to earn national certification by passing the Board of Certification exam. You can expect to graduate well prepared for this exam. The MSAT program since conception (2019) has had a first time pass rate of 97%.

The Master of Science in Athletic Training program utilizes a holistic approach to applicant review. We consider ALL aspects of the application, not just academic history. Admission Options
Prospective students wanting to begin the professional phase of their education and who are seeking admission to the Master of Science in Athletic Training degree can follow one of following options:
- Earned bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution by the time of enrollment (June of each year).
- Complete all prerequisite coursework by enrollment.
- Submit a completed application via ATCAS (applications open from July - March).
- Participate in an interview, if invited.
- Submit an undergraduate application to the University of Indianapolis, indicating your intended undergraduate major (any) with MS in Athletic Training Concentration.
- The admissions committee will review the application and inform the student of their eligibility status by letter. If eligible, the student signs and returns the enclosed letter of intent to UIndy Undergraduate Admissions.
- Students that are identified as Early Assurance can take advantage of the Priority Admit option to avoid AT CAS fees and have an admission decision prior to the start of their senior year.

- Submit an application for the MS in Athletic Training Priority Admit option between January 15 and April 15 via the University of Indianapolis application system.
- The athletic training admissions committee will review the application and if accepted, student will be invited to interview for the program.
Program Applications
Applications for the Master of Science in Athletic Training at the University of Indianapolis should be submitted through the ATCAS website. Applications should be completed by November 15 for priority review. The program will continue to review applications received after that date on a rolling admissions basis until the cohort is full or May 15. MSAT Eligibility & Admissions
The following are required for consideration for admission:
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- NOTE: The Master of Science in Athletic Training program utilizes a holistic approach to applicant review. We consider ALL aspects of the application, not just academic history.
- Completion of prerequisite courses with at least a "C" or better in each course. Courses taken on a pass/fail basis or any non-course credit will not count, such as Advance Placement (AP) credits.

- Evidence that the applicant is a UIndy undergraduate student who has or will complete the core requirements of their UG degree prior to matriculation.
- UIndy students earning early assurance to the MSAT program must meet specific thresholds during their undergraduate education.

- All applicants are required to provide two recommendations, including one from a health care provider (athletic trainer preferred).

- All applicants are required to write a personal statement completed and submitted using the ATCAS system.
- Observation Hours
- 50 observation hours with a certified athletic trainer or other sports medicine rehabilitation/healthcare provider is strongly recommended.
- Applicants may upload the information in the documents section of ATCAS.
- Interview
- After the application deadline, top ranked applicants will be invited for an interview.
- Interviews are conducted in person on campus. Remote video interviews can be pre-arranged for applicants with health or travel restrictions.

Students offered admission must sign a letter of intent indicating their acceptance of admission and acknowledgement of all matriculation requirements. - Completion of Prerequisite Courses and Official Transcripts
All prerequisite coursework must be completed with a grade of C or better prior to beginning the MSAT program. An official transcript showing a conferred degree will be submitted to the MSAT Admissions Counselor by June 1 for any incoming student. - Financial Aid
Students intending to apply for Financial Aid should visit the UIndy Financial Aid Website. - Technical Standards
UIndy upholds the technical standards set forth by the American Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as the health and safety policy designed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). All candidates must review the documents below and verify their understanding of the standards and policy before being granted acceptance into the program. - Required Health Documentation
Students in the MSAT program must comply with all health requirements. Health requirements are tracked throughout the program in order to ensure students remain in compliance with Program and Clinical requirements. Proof of immunity and/or vaccinations are required. Additionally, students are required to have a physical exam completed by a primary health provider, as well as proof of health insurance prior to matriculation. - Criminal Background Check and Drug Screen
- Criminal background checks are required of students in the MSAT. The specific procedures for how to request a criminal background check will be explained to the student. Students are responsible for all costs related to obtaining a criminal background check.
- Drug screens may be required of students at some clinical education sites. The specific procedures for how to obtain a drug screen will be explained to the student when appropriate.

In order to remain in good standing in the MSAT program, students must:
- Abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the Athletic Training Student Handbook
- Maintain current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider or Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification
- Provide proof of health insurance
- Successfully complete annual bloodborne pathogens and HIPAA training
- Complete Criminal Background Checks/Safe Harbor, Zachary reports and drug screens when applicable
- Maintain National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) membership
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Earn a grade of "C" or higher in each course in the MSAT program
- Demonstrate satisfactory completion of all competencies and clinical projects at the minimum required level, associated with didactic and clinical education components of the program
- Earn the minimum number of clinical hours for each clinical rotation experience
- Students will take a cumulative exam at the end of Semesters I and II in their first year. Students will take a UIndy benchmark exam at the end of Semester I of their second year that is modeled after the BOC exam. Students must earn a score of 70% or higher on the cumulative exams and 65% or higher on the UIndy benchmark exam. Students who fail to meet the required score for a cumulative or benchmark exam will work with program faculty on a remediation plan.
