Choral Ensemble Auditions
All students (incoming and returning) must audition to participate in a choral ensemble at UIndy. Ensemble assignments are at the faculty’s discretion. A variety of factors are considered in the assignment process, including (but not limited to) the student's class schedule, voice type, and music literacy skills. If you have any questions, or need more information, please contact Prof. Caio Lopes at lopesc@uindy.edu.
2025 Audition Dates
- Friday, August 23 at 5-8 p.m.
- Saturday, August 24 at 1-5 p.m.

What To Expect In An Audition
Our goal is to make your audition a fun, informative, and low-stress experience. EVERYONE who auditions will have a place to sing at UIndy! We will simply assess your current ability level and help find the right ensemble for you.
During the audition you can expect the following:
- To sing one prepared piece. For non-majors, this could be any familiar song (i.e. My Country Tis of Thee, Amazing Grace). For music majors an aria or art song is expected in a language of your choice.
- Vocalizations: Dr. Westra may take you through a series of exercises designed to check your range, evaluate your timbre, and to assess your ear.
- Sight-reading: You will be asked to read a simple melody at sight. Ability to read music is NOT a requirement to sing at UIndy.
- You'll be asked about your musical training as well as your involvement in campus and community activities.
