Students at crime scene house

An interdisciplinary track based in science, law, and real world practice including hours of hands-on learning experiences in the department’s Criminal Justice Education Lab, the Crime Scene Investigation concentration trains students in the recognition, collection, and preservation of physical evidence from the crime scene to the courtroom, as well as basic search and seizure procedures and interview skills.

No matter what part of the Criminal Justice field a student plans to work in, it is imperative to understand the basic concepts and fundamental processes of crime scenes. The preservation and protection of a scene, documentation, and knowing how to properly collect evidence are skills that anyone stepping in or around a crime scene has to know. The crime lab creates an environment similar to what one might expect arriving on a scene. This hands-on approach to learning can open a student’s eyes to something they didn’t understand when said in a verbal lecture.
