I loved to talk in class, and usually talking in class gets you in trouble. But in my case, it got me into a career. My professor took note of my flair for talking and suggested I try radio. And here I am. It says a lot about a university where professors work with you one-on-one and help you leverage your abilities to be successful.
Media track
The media track at UIndy gives you a sturdy grasp on the skills needed to enter the media production workforce fully prepared. You will get experience in the many aspects of the radio and TV industries, including writing, production, and on-air talent. The tailored nature of this program allows you to focus your education in TV, radio, or both.

Program Strengths
- Unlike many programs, UIndy lets you jump right in to working radio and television studios during your first semester (in fact, it's expected!)
- Experiential courses can be taken each semester, giving you time to explore a wide range of areas and advance your skillset
- Practice behind-the-scenes operations in broadcasting using much of the same equipment that you'll find in commercial TV or radio stations
- Professors have strong backgrounds in radio and television broadcasting, and continued ties with both industries, so they ensure classes are up-to-date with the latest developments in the field

UIndyTV
Broadcast across public access cable television stations all over the Indianapolis area, UIndyTV gives you real-world experience in a TV station.
Opportunities available through UIndyTV include:
- On-air talent, such as a show host, news anchor, reporter, or other media professional
- Videography
- Behind-the-scenes roles in stage prep, set managing, lighting or video editing
WICR-FM (88.7)
WICR-FM (88.7) is UIndy's noncommercial public radio station, and is the only jazz and classical radio station in Indianapolis. The station is broadcast to 22 Central Indiana counties, with approximately 50,700 listeners tuning in each week. Listen online or view programming schedule
Through working in a fully functioning radio station, students develop skills in various aspects of the industry, such as:
- Writing scripts
- Hosting radio shows and developing an on-air personality
- Learning how to use radio equipment
- Editing
- Behind-the-scenes roles in production, programming, news, promotions, sales and more
