Launch Your Career in Aging Services–A career with impact and opportunity.

The aging of our population is creating unprecedented opportunities in healthcare, social services, policy, research, and community programming. If you want a career where you make a real difference, aging services might be your calling.

Why This Field Needs You

As the baby boomer generation ages, the demand for professionals who understand older adults has never been greater. We need:

  • Healthcare providers and social workers.
  • Program directors and case managers.
  • Policy advocates and researchers.
  • Community engagement specialists.
  • Administrators and nonprofit leaders.

These roles exist across healthcare systems, senior living communities, adult day programs, home health agencies, government organizations, nonprofits, research institutions, and beyond.

How CAC Supports Your Journey

At CAC, we help you prepare for this career through hands-on experience, research opportunities, and mentorship from experts in the field. While we work closely with UIndy's academic programs, we provide real-world learning that complements your classroom education.

These experiences give you real-world context for your classroom learning—and help you discover what aspect of aging services excites you most.

Here's how you can get involved:

Academic Programs

UIndy offers degree programs and coursework in aging studies. CAC works closely with these programs and collaborates with CAC-Affiliated Faculty who span 12+ disciplines. CAC staff also serve as guest lecturers and advisors for aging-related coursework, bringing practical expertise into the classroom.

Internships & Practicum Placements

Need an internship or practicum? CAC can help connect you with placement sites, including senior living communities, adult day programs, Area Agencies on Aging, healthcare systems, and community organizations. We occasionally have positions available at CAC itself.

Research Opportunities

Get involved in meaningful research by connecting with CAC staff or Affiliated Faculty. Opportunities include data collection and analysis, literature reviews, community engagement, project coordination, and presentation development. Research experience strengthens graduate school applications and résumés—plus you'll build skills that matter in any career.

Student Employment

CAC sometimes has work-study or student employment positions available. These roles give you hands-on experience while earning money for school. Check UIndy's job board or contact CAC directly to inquire about openings.

Experiential Learning

Building an age-friendly community together. Even if you're not formally involved in a project, you can learn by engaging with CAC's community programs:

  • Observe Memory Cafés to see person-centered dementia care in action.
