- Apply for transfer credit (Optional) – To have a non-US higher education/university transcript considered for transfer credit, order a course-by-course credential evaluation report of the transcript from an agency listed as a current member of NACES or AICE. Then have the official evaluation report sent to the University of Indianapolis. We recommend using the IEE portal to order an evaluation from International Education Evaluation (IEE).
To finalize your admission, submit original, official, paper academic documents that have been stamped & signed by the issuing institution, an educational authority or an EducationUSA office. If it’s more convenient for you, you may show these items to your admission counselor when you arrive in Indianapolis. If you are submitting official examination results, have them sent directly to us from the examination service.

When can I begin my studies at UIndy?
UIndy has intakes every year in August and January.
When is your application deadline?
We do not have an application deadline. We recommend you begin the application process several months before the semester you’d like to start at UIndy begins. We continue accepting applications and documents until we reach capacity or until you no longer have sufficient time to complete the process before a semester begins. In either case, we would be happy to defer your application to a future semester, if necessary.
To apply, what documents do I need to submit and how do I submit them?
After you apply, you’ll have access to your personal application portal. On your portal, you’ll see a checklist of documents to submit. Please upload documents to your portal rather than submitting them via email. Your checklist will be updated as you submit documents and as we review your application and materials. We will also note in your portal if some documents need to be verified or if you must have official results or transcripts sent directly to us from the institution.
Does UIndy offer scholarships for international students?
Yes. Admitted students automatically receive an academic scholarship based on their previous grade point average. For first-year students (freshmen) who have not attended an educational institution after high school (or secondary school), the amount ranges from $12,000 to $20,000 per year for four years. For students who have attended an educational institution after high school/secondary school (transfers), the amount ranges from $9,000 to $17,000 per year for three years. Students must maintain a designated UIndy grade point average (GPA) as well as remain enrolled full-time to keep their scholarship. We do not offer additional scholarship funds for achieving a GPA at UIndy.
Does UIndy offer athletic grants for international students?
Yes. UIndy coaching staff offer a limited number of athletic grants in a range of amounts for the highest performing athletes. For consideration, contact the coaching staff of your sport with your athletic resume, coach recommendations, athletic video, and so on.
Does UIndy offer need-based financial aid to international students?
UIndy does not offer need-based financial aid for international students.
Does UIndy offer loans to international students?
UIndy does not offer loans to students. International students may apply for certain private loans. However, financial institutions lending to international students require both an I-20 student visa document as part of the application as well as a credit-worthy US citizen/permanent resident co-signer.
May I “start over” as a first-year student if I have attended another institution after high school/secondary school?
If you have attended an educational institution after high school/secondary school, we will consider you a transfer student and you are required to submit official transcripts from that institution for admission consideration. However, you do not need to have your previous courses considered for transfer if you don't want to undertake that process.
How do I transfer course credit to UIndy from an institution outside the US?
Students who have been accepted for admission to UIndy may have their previous post-secondary courses considered for transfer through the following procedure.
-
Select a credential evaluation service from one of these lists: NACES or AICE. We recommend using the IEE portal to order an evaluation from International Education Evaluation (IEE).
-
Go to the site for the evaluation service you have selected and follow the instructions to order a course-by-course credential evaluation report of your post-secondary transcript. You will need to pay for this service. The price normally ranges from about $160 to $200 USD.
-
Follow instructions on the evaluation service site regarding how to have your transcript submitted to the evaluation service. Many evaluation service sites will provide specific instructions for the country in which you were educated. Normally you must ask your post-secondary institution to send your official transcript directly to the evaluation service.
-
As you order your evaluation report, it is best if you request to have an official report sent directly to UIndy.
- Upload course descriptions in English to your application portal.
Note:
-
Ideally UIndy will receive your official evaluation report at least a few weeks before you register for classes at UIndy. (Without knowing what classes you have been credited with, it is not possible for an academic adviser to place you in appropriate UIndy classes.) Most evaluation services prepare an evaluation report within 10 days after receiving your official documents though sometimes additional verification is required. Please order your evaluation report well in advance allowing plenty of time for the evaluation service to receive your transcript from your post-secondary institution and to verify it if necessary.
-
If your post-secondary institution is recognized by your government and is considered equivalent to a US university, you will likely receive UIndy credit for any course in which you received the equivalent of a US "C" grade or higher. However, in many cases, at least a portion of the credit you receive will be "elective" general credit that may not fulfill specific course or degree requirements. Here are some reasons why courses transfer in as elective credit or as credit which does not fulfill degree requirements:
-
UIndy does not offer the course
-
UIndy offers the course but it is not required for your UIndy degree
-
The comparable UIndy course is worth more US credits than the course you took. To understand this, we have to look at how educational systems are compared across countries. In the US, it is standard for full-time students to complete about 30 credits per year and most courses are worth 3-4 credits. In order to equate credits to the US system, US institutions convert the credit system in another country to a 30-credit system. For example, if students in a country normally earn 60 credits per year, each of those credits will be considered equivalent to .5 US credits. Thus, a 4-credit course in that country would convert to 2 credits in the US system. Then if our comparable course is worth 3 or 4 credits, the 2 US credits earned in the other country are not sufficient to fulfill the US course requirement.

How do I transfer my I-20 from another institution to UIndy?
-
Make sure UIndy has both accepted you for admission and approved your financial documents.
-
To transfer from your previous institution's I-20 to a UIndy I-20, show the Designated School Official or International Student Advisor at the institution from which you are transferring your UIndy admission letter. (You may download your admission letter from your student portal.) Ask this adviser to transfer your SEVIS record to:
University of Indianapolis
CHI214F10467000 -
Your adviser will then set a date on which your SEVIS record will transfer to UIndy.
-
After the above is complete and after your SEVIS release date has passed, we will issue your UIndy I-20 and upload it to your portal for you to access.
Am I too young or too old to apply?
No. UIndy does not have an age requirement to apply for international students. You must graduate from high school/secondary school before enrolling as a full-time student. If you graduated from high school/secondary school more than one year ago, we will ask you to let us know if you have enrolled in an educational program after high school.
May international students work on campus?
Yes. International students are permitted to hold jobs on campus. The jobs pay the state-mandated minimum wage and students may work no more than 19 hours per week while classes are in session. Additional hours are allowed, if available, during school holiday breaks. Students search for campus employment themselves. The employment database becomes available to accepted students after they deposit and shortly before their enrollment begins.
May I visit UIndy in person or meet with an admission counselor virtually?
Yes. We would be pleased to meet you in person or virtually.
Do you offer campus housing and it is required?
Yes. UIndy has several campus residence halls and three apartment complexes to choose from. Living on UIndy’s campus is not required for most students.
