Strategic Plan Process and Timeline

Research & Listening to our Community

This strategic plan is a culmination of input from our stakeholders who include both internal and external constituencies. They include our faculty, students, staff, alumni, Trustees, and leaders from the corporate, government and not-for-profit world, as well as thought leaders in the educational space. It recognizes the power of higher education as one of the most important drivers of social mobility and economic progress while reaffirming its place in an evolved society. It is a bold affirmation of our promise as an innovative, modern institution attuned to the needs of today’s learners.

Following the arrival of Dr. Tanuja Singh, as the 10th president of the University of Indianapolis in July 2023, informal conversations about our vision and strategic priorities began to take place in small and large group settings with both internal and external stakeholders. These initial conversations provided an understanding of our historical perspective as well as the evolving nature of the institution. Most importantly, they enabled us to explore the opportunities in the marketplace that uniquely speak to our strengths.

What We Learned

Responses from our stakeholders validated our initial assertion that one of the primary barriers to innovation affecting universities is the traditional model of higher education. Respondents emphasized relevance, problem solving, skill-based knowledge, resilience, global mindset, and creativity as keys to success for our students. As stakeholder meetings continued, a clear consensus among eight key themes emerged:

  1. Focus on strengths
  2. Skill-centered education
  3. Continuing education and training to help upskill and reskill

  4. Collaborate to compete
  5. Community hub
  6. Alumni engagement
  7. Social mobility
  8. Global mindset
