University of Indianapolis Freedom Award

Program Description

To recognize service men and women for their exemplary and heroic service to our country, UIndy grants will be offered to persons who are eligible for full veteran's benefits through the Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008 and the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Award Amount

The veteran, spouse or dependent child, if benefits transferred, is eligible for the Post 9/11 tuition benefit at UIndy at an amount equal to the highest in-state tuition at a public university. Under the Yellow Ribbon Program, the Veterans Administration will also match award made by UIndy up to one half of the remaining tuition. The UIndy Freedom Award would then be calculated as one half of the remaining tuition after the Post 9/11 base award, state and other federal gift aid have been applied to tuition.

Eligibility Criteria

The Freedom Award will be awarded to students who meet the following criteria:

Eligible for full Post 9/11 Veterans benefits and the Yellow Ribbon Program
Admissible as an undergraduate, day division student
Must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the March 10 state deadline
Eligible if continues to be eligible for both VA awards up to a maximum of eight semesters

Stacking

Stacking cap criteria do not apply as this is a full tuition guarantee program. This award may not be combined with any UIndy merit scholarship, United Methodist Award or Service Award. The student is eligible for a book allowance of up to $1,000 from the VA.
