Forensics Speech and Debate Team

Enhancing our communication, research, and public speaking skills

We are a nationally ranked learning-centered community that competes in speech and debate events to enhance our communication, research, and public speaking skills. In the words of the ancient rhetorician, Quintilian, we are “good people, speaking well.”

Are you passionate about advocacy, literature, or current events? Then we may be your people. The educational imperative of our team is to help nurture and support those wishing to express their ideas and follow their passions.

The team travels locally and nationally to represent UIndy as ambassadors and competitors. At tournaments, students compete in a variety of events within the categories of platform speaking, literature interpretation, limited preparation, and debate.

On average, the team includes 10-15 students from a variety of majors. We travel to approximately 12 tournaments each year, plus extended competition in national championships.

We are very proud that the work of our team has earned us numerous awards including the following:

  • NFA Division II National Champions
  • International Forensics Association Champion
  • Novice National IPDA Debate Champion
  • NSC National Speech Individual Champion
  • Team Quality Awards
  • Novice National Pentathlon Champion
  • Numerous State Champions
  • Team Novice National Champions
