Master of Science in Athletic Training
College of Health Sciences

Champions aren’t born, they’re made. Athletic training students at the University of Indianapolis not only learn the skills and knowledge needed to help athletes realize their full potential, but also to maintain it. With an emphasis on hands-on experiences, the athletic training program at UIndy prepares its students to confidently provide injury-prevention services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation to their patients. Students have the opportunity to apply their lessons in state-of-the-art simulation facilities on campus and on-site at some of 40 clinical partners, while working alongside nurses, EMTs, occupational and physical therapists, and UIndy’s expert faculty. With numerous opportunities for professional growth through projects, conferences, service-learning projects, and more, graduates from the UIndy athletic training program will enter their Board of Certification Exams confident and prepared to step into their careers.
UIndy challenged me to start acting like I was already an AT while in school. I had projects that mimicked what my work would be like. We did standardized patients and many other scenarios that gave us chances to feel like an AT before we graduated. Then once I was certified, the pressure did not get to me because I had already learned how to manage it.
Your Best Coaches
UIndy’s professors are our students’ best coaches, both in and outside of the classroom. Our faculty share their first-hand experiences from careers spanning many years and multiple settings. Many hold influential positions with state and national organizations. Small classes and guest speakers allow students to talk with and learn from their professors on a personal level and be introduced to other industry professionals.
In addition to their classroom impact, our faculty are dedicated to furthering the field through research and scholarly work. They regularly present their work on state, regional, national and international platforms.
Students have the opportunity to have experience in athletics at nearly every level: tactical sports medicine, occupational health, and many clinic settings, learning from not only athletic trainers but physicians and physical and occupational therapists. Many techniques are taught that expose the students to a variety of ways of treating and caring for their patients.
Real-World Experience
At UIndy, we know the key to a successful career is having not only knowledge, but experience. Thanks to strong partnerships with more than 40 healthcare organizations in Indianapolis—and more across the country—athletic-training students have the opportunity to apply their lessons in a variety of real-world settings. As part of the graduate program in athletic training at UIndy, students will engage in five semesters of clinical education, including three full-time clinical placements, both on campus and at our partner clinical sites. And our faculty work directly with individual students to match clinical placements to their career goals and interest areas.
