Assistantships & Fellowships

Graduate Assistantship

A limited number of graduate assistantship positions are available to first year students within the Department of Counseling. The positions are highly competitive, require 11 hours of work per week with a faculty member, and provide a one-fourth reduction in the cost of tuition for one year. Assistants must remain full-time students in the program and maintain acceptable academic and professional standing.

Preference will be given to applicants who meet the following requirements:
Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.5/4.0

Diverse and Underserved Communities Fellowship

The Department of Counseling offers one Diverse and Underserved Communities Fellowship each year. The fellow is expected to demonstrate commitment to supporting the department’s mission of service to diverse and underserved communities through counseling practice, scholarship, leadership, and advocacy. The fellowship provides a reduction in the cost of tuition for one year.

Assistantship and fellowship applications are emailed to students after you submit your application to the MHC program. If you have any further questions please email CEBS Admissions (cebsadmissions@uindy.edu).

Financial Aid

Many graduate students receive some type of financial assistance through such federal programs as the Federal Direct Stafford loan program or the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan program. Psychology graduate students must be enrolled at least half-time (4.5 credit hours each semester) to remain eligible for these federal loan programs. If you have previous loans in repayment, you may contact your lender upon enrolling in your new graduate program to request an in-school deferment.
