Chamber Orchestra Auditions
Auditions for the string section of the Chamber Orchestra are open to all UIndy students and members of the surrounding community, and are required for all music majors and students receiving Ensemble Grants.
Sign up for an audition
Auditions will take place on Friday, Aug. 25 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. in room 221 (String Studio) of the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Building. Sign-up sheets will be posted on the bulletin board outside room 109 by Monday afternoon, Aug. 21. No additional audition times will be added, so please plan ahead and sign up early. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your audition to allow for time to warm up and to complete an audition information form.
What to expect
Your audition will consist of:
1. Scales (major and harmonic minor, 2 or 3 octaves)
- Violin: A, C and E
- Viola: C, D and F
- Cello: C, D and A
- Bass: E, F and G
2. Solo piece
- Please prepare an excerpt from a solo work or etude of your choice (no more than two minutes in duration).
All instrumentalists will be required to present excerpts from the following pieces. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for sheet music.
- Mendelssohn: String Symphony no.4 in C minor
- Bartok: Rumanian Folk Dances (string orchestra arrangement)
Assignments for the Chamber Orchestra will be posted following the auditions and rehearsals begin on Aug. 28.
