Safety and Security at UIndy

Eye on safety.

Feeling Secure on Campus

UIndy students enjoy a safe and secure campus. Controlled access to residence halls, good lighting, emergency call boxes, and personal escorts to cars and residence halls are some of the ways we safeguard the campus community. Of course, safety begins with students making smart choices while on campus.

Police Services

UIndy Police know the campus community and are proactive in ensuring safety through regular patrols, traffic control, motorist assistance, and seminars for students on such topics as personal safety and alcohol education. In addition to the sworn officers, UIndy also employs student cadets for special on-campus events, building security, foot patrols, and safety escorts at night.

Residence Life Security

Residence hall and apartment doors are locked 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residents can access their residence's main door by swiping their UIndy student ID. Residents are issued a key that unlocks their rooms and interior hallways. Main entrance access may be limited during vacation periods and access is then limited to University personnel and approved residents. Residence halls and apartments are supervised by professional live-in staff and several student resident assistants.

Watchdog Alerts

Should an emergency occur, UIndy notifies faculty, staff, and students through its Watchdog system, which sends instant alerts via cell phone, email, and landlines. Watchdog augments other communication channels on and off campus.

Addressing sexual misconduct

The University of Indianapolis is committed to the support and safety of our students by fostering a supportive learning community. Sexual misconduct in any form undermines the trust and respect essential in an institution of higher learning and represents a breach of specific provisions of the student code of conduct. UIndy is committed to connecting students to resources they may want or need, while respecting their decision regarding how to proceed.

Addressing Hazing on Campus

The University of Indianapolis is committed to the support and safety of our students by fostering a safe and respectful campus environment. Hazing, in any form, has no place in our community. It undermines the values of respect and trust that are essential to campus life and is a clear violation of the Student Code of Conduct. In keeping with the goals of the Stop Campus Hazing Act, we’re working to increase transparency, raise awareness, and prevent hazing through proactive education and accountability.

Prevention Education

The University of Indianapolis is dedicated to maintaining a healthy campus community where everyone can feel safe, respected, and supported. As part of this commitment, all University students are assigned annual trainings consisting of research-based, online courses. Topics covered include:

  • Alcohol and Drugs
  • Hazing
  • Title IX and Sexual Misconduct
  • General Safety Information

Each course will be hosted online through VectorSolutions, the University’s online training portal.
