Master of Science in Sport Management
College of Health Sciences

Imagine yourself in Indianapolis behind the scenes at some of the nation’s largest sporting events – like the NCAA Final Four, Big Ten Basketball Tournament, NFL Combine, Olympic Trials, or Indianapolis 500 – watching the action come to life after months, or even years, of planning. Chances are you’d be standing right next to UIndy sport management students, alumni and faculty.
Alumni have gone on to have successful careers with:
- Adidas
- Indianapolis Colts
- Indy Fuel
- USA Track & Field
- National Collegiate Athletics
- Association (NCAA)
From intercollegiate athletics administration, to revenue generation, to event management and everything in between, the UIndy master’s of sport management program equips students with the skills and mindset necessary to successfully launch careers in the sports industry. Furthermore, sport management graduate students have the opportunity to apply these lessons to real-world situations even before graduation. Previous students have assisted in the planning of numerous NCAA championship events - including the College Football Playoff, Swimming & Diving Championships, and both men’s and women’s Final Fours - giving them invaluable experiences and connections to the nation’s top sporting networks.
The sport management bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at the University of Indianapolis have received specialized accreditation through the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA), located in Fort Collins, CO, USA.
Go Behind the Scenes
As the “Amateur Sports Capital of the World,” Indianapolis hosts dozens of major sporting events and hundreds of smaller events each year. This provides UIndy sport management graduate students innumerable opportunities to hone their skills through hands-on experiences in real-world settings. In addition to being mentored by an industry professional throughout their program, students will partner with sports organizations to assist with the planning or execution of sporting events and programs. Through unique partnerships with organizations like the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Horizon League, our students complete internships to learn the skills needed to start their careers – and often find full-time employment with those organizations upon graduation.
We have been lucky to have many UIndy students as interns for our team over the years. We have found they are prepared, focused, and serious about their careers in sports. We were able to hire one of these interns for a full-time position upon graduation after a successful season of being a game operations intern.
Learn From the Pros
Unlike other schools’ sport management graduate programs, every professor at UIndy has worked in the sport management industry — from high school to intercollegiate athletics to professional sports — at some point in their careers. In fact, many faculty members currently serve in influential roles with organizations like the Sport Marketing Association and Indiana Sports Corp, and have served on the local organizing committees for multiple men’s and women’s NCAA Final Fours, the Super Bowl, College Football National Championship, multiple NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, and the 2024 United States Olympics Swimming Trials.
In addition, all UIndy master’s courses are co-taught by UIndy instructors and industry professionals. Your networking opportunities start right in the classroom, putting you that much closer to your winning career.
