Online MSN Nursing and Health Systems Leadership

This course examines concepts of strategic planning and marketing in health care systems. Functions that facilitate effective strategic planning and marketing are emphasized including organizational analysis, strategic planning techniques, marketing tools, project management, implementation process, program evaluation, and sustaining outcomes. Multiple dimensions of health care trends for evidence-based leadership and interprofessionalism are explored. Prerequisites and/or corequisites: Graduate standing or permission of the instructor

Advanced leadership roles and practices for facilitating and coordinating complex processes in health care systems are emphasized. Students will demonstrate performance behaviors foundational for building healthier workplaces and influencing change for effective care delivery. The focus of skill development is on communication, team facilitation, accountability, motivation, decision-making, and innovation. Prerequisites and/or corequisites: None

This course examines health information technology (HIT) and the impact on safety, cost, health policy, quality, and overall health of the population. An overview of selected population health concepts applicable to the advanced practice nurse and interprofessional practice team is included. Evidence-based health promotion theories and models to improve health status and access to care for diverse populations are explored. The student will focus on integrating HIT, interprofessional and epidemiologic concepts into one or more of the following areas: clinical settings, aggregate populations, patient education and promotion of health, collaborative partnerships with administration and information systems personnel that select and manage information systems designed to improve health-related outcomes. Prerequisites and/or corequisites: None

This course will focus on the development of policy analysis and advocacy skills necessary to influence policy change in organizations and at the local, state, national, and international levels. Students will study the role of laws and regulations within the U.S. health system; and explore economic, financial, and political influences on the policy-making process. Additional areas of study include the importance of interprofessional collaboration in improving health outcomes through the policy process.

Students will be required to have technology that is compatible with the required computerized testing platform software. Please see the IT Help Page for requirements needed for Windows and MAC OS computers. Chromebooks will not meet the technology requirements for the School of Nursing.
