Graduate assistantship
The Department of Interprofessional Health & Aging Studies (IHAS) offers one graduate assistantship position each calendar year to a student enrolled in one of our master’s or doctoral programs. Graduate Assistants (GAs) work with IHAS faculty and staff in various areas, including managing departmental Facebook pages and groups, research, outreach, marketing, event planning, and capacity-building efforts.
Description: The assistantship award consists of tuition remission of 3-credit hours in each of the three semesters they serve: one (1) 3.0-credit course in the winter semester, one (1) 3.0-credit course in the summer semester, and one (1) 3.0-credit course in the fall semester.
Start Date: First day of the Winter semester
End Date: Last day of the following Fall semester
APPLICATION CRITERIA:
The call for applications is sent in November to students enrolled in graduate-level IHAS programs. Students must be in good academic standing, and with a GPA or 3.0 or better. Students must be proficient in maintaining a Facebook account. Applicants must enroll in at least 3 credit hours per semester (Winter, Summer, and Fall) to be and remain eligible for the assistantship. Awardees will be notified by official letter and must confirm acceptance in writing. Those who have served in the role previously are welcome to reapply for up to one additional term (two calendar years total).
submitting applications:
A completed application will include the following items:
- A typed letter of application that addresses the following criteria:
- A statement of interest in and commitment to the mission of the IHAS graduate program(s) in which the student is enrolled.
- Confirmation of ability to work 6 hours per week (2 hours per credit hour of assistance) during each semester.
- Confirmation of commitment for one full calendar year.
- A description of any special work skills that will be brought to the assistantship, including those related to maintaining a Facebook account.
- Description of financial need.
- A current résumé/CV.
- Demonstration of academic proficiency (3.0 GPA or higher) on academic record (will be verified through the UIndy Registrar).
- One letter of recommendation—the letter may be from an academic reference, employment, or a volunteer position. Letters should address motivation, work ethic, experience, and/or job skills.
Within the email to students calling for GA applications will be a Google Form with which to submit the application materials. Applications will be reviewed by IHAS faculty and staff. Applicants will be notified of the status of their application in December before the end of the Fall semester.
Questions regarding the graduate assistantship opportunity should be directed to the IHAS department chair.
