About the Americans with Disabilities Act

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), enacted in 1990, provides civil rights protection for persons with disabilities. ADA's purpose is to ensure that people with disabilities are granted equal access to employment, public services, public accommodation, transportation, and telecommunications.

To help you understand the potential scope of covered disabilities, below is a non-exhaustive list of types of conditions that may be covered by the ADA.

Eligibility for Services

  1. Complete the online Accommodation Request Form or Emotional Support Animal Request Form
  2. When filling out the online request forms, you can attach your disability documentation or email it to disabilities@uindy.edu.

Some examples can include: Psychoeducational Evaluations, IEP’s, ISP’s, or 504’s.  You can also use our verification forms (to be completed by a licensed professional): 

Requirements

  • Clearly state the diagnosed disability or disabilities
  • Describe the functional limitations resulting from the disability or disabilities
  • Describing how the disability or disabilities currently affect the student in an educational setting  
  • Describe the specific accommodations requested
  • Adequately support each of the requested accommodations
