Communiversity at UIndy

Enrollment for Communiversity 2025: Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse has closed. However, all lectures and performances are free and open to the public. We hope you'll join us at the events listed below. Please check back again in June for next year's novel!

2025 Novel: To the Lighthouse

Communiversity is an online, book-club-style course that is open to everyone — alumni, current students and community members alike. This year’s novel is Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse (1927), a modernist classic.

The course takes place throughout the semester and includes lectures and online discussions about the course’s book of focus. The course is held completely online (although, if desired, students can attend most lectures in person), and with manageable weekly readings and online discussions, the course is designed to fit into busy schedules.

For community members wishing to attend

Attendees do not need to be admitted UIndy students, and no tuition will be charged; the course is $10 for community members. Registering for the course allows access to the online discussion forum and other course materials.

All students must have a high school diploma or equivalent credential to participate.

For UIndy students wishing to attend

In order to earn one semester credit hour, you should register for INTD 230 01X, then post and reply weekly within the discussion forum. You may earn L/P credit by attending the lectures.

The course will be taken for credit/no credit, and you will not receive a grade in the course.

Honors College students must register for INTD 230 H1X, post and reply weekly within the discussion forum, attend at least one lecture and write two essays in order to receive credit. Honors students will receive a grade for the course.

About the Lectures

Lectures are led by Shaheen College of Arts & Sciences faculty. They provide a variety of disciplinary perspectives on the novel. L/P credit available for UIndy students for all events.
