Clinical Psychology Doctorate (PsyD)
College of Education and Behavioral Sciences

Take the next step in your journey to becoming a psychologist at the University of Indianapolis. The clinical psychology doctorate program (PsyD) at UIndy prepares the next generation of clinical psychologists through an emphasis on experiential learning. Under the guidance of dedicated, professional faculty, students in the PsyD program apply their classroom instruction in a variety of real-world settings such as medical centers, outpatient clinics, and schools within the Indianapolis area. Such practicum and internship experiences not only equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in their careers, but also help students discover the area of psychology that is right for them. Thanks to the wealth of faculty expertise and variety of partner practicum sites, students can build upon their foundation of general psychology to specialize in areas such as adolescent psychology or behavioral medicine. Graduates from the PsyD program at UIndy have earned an impressive 94% pass rate on the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP), allowing them to seek their license to practice and to use their UIndy education in service to their communities.
It is the faculty that sets UIndy's PsyD program apart and makes it so amazing. Time and time again I have seen my professors go out of their way to make sure we are succeeding across every aspect of our program. Their focus on each person’s individual success reminds me that it isn't about the “school work” but rather about training the next generation of competent and proficient clinicians.
Pursue Your Passion
The PsyD program at UIndy is designed for students to explore new paths and discover the area of psychology in which they can realize their full potential. Students can pursue deeper knowledge and develop advanced clinical expertise in one of the following concentrations:
The health psychology and behavioral medicine concentration allows students to deepen their clinical knowledge in health related interventions such as substance use, primary care psychology, eating disorders, insomnia and pain. In addition to traditional classroom instruction, students pursuing this concentration will participate in supervised doctoral practicum experiences and internship opportunities in a variety of settings, including Indianapolis-based hospitals, treatment centers and group practice sites.
The childhood and adolescent psychology concentration is ideal for students who are interested in careers as child psychologists. This concentration prepares students to serve the youngest population of patients by pairing child-focused clinical training in settings, such as K-12 schools, hospitals, and inpatient child sites, with advanced, specialized courses led by experienced faculty.
The adult psychopathology and psychotherapy concentration is designed for students who are interested in working with older patients by building advanced skills in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of adult problems. Students in pursuing this concentration will have the opportunity to choose electives that explore topics such as the psychology of gender, group psychotherapy, and specific disorders or behaviors. These courses will be augmented through supervised doctoral-level practicum and internship placements in settings such as veterans-affairs hospitals, correctional facilities, and domestic violence shelters.
The psychological assessment concentration is designed to give students additional exposure to the administration and interpretation of psychological assessments beyond what is typically expected in the program. The psychological assessment concentration within the field of clinical psychology equips students with advanced skills and knowledge in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of psychological tests and measures.
