September 2022 - Engineering Programs accredited by ABet
R.B. Annis School of Engineering's Industrial and Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Software Engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The accreditation action extends retroactively from October 1, 2019.
September 2022 - Dr. Haque publishes his research
Dr. Md. Munirul Haque, Assistant Professor in the R. B. Annis School of Engineering is a co-author on a journal in BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making titled "Demand sensing and digital tracking for maternal child health (MCH) in Uganda: a pilot study for ‘E+TRA Health". This work was funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and done in collaboration with Purdue University.
Dr. Haque also co-authored a paper titled " A Data-Driven Validation of Mobile-based Care (mCARE) Project for Children with ASD in LMICs". This work was funded by NIH and done in collaboration with Marquette University.
Dr. Haque is also a co-author on a chapter in AI Applications for Disease Diagnosis and Treatment entitled "A Mobile Health Application for Monitoring the Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: ASD Monitoring by mHealth."
JuLY 19, 2022 - UINDY SUMMER 2022 ENGINEERING DAY CAMP CONCLUDES WITH EPIC ROBOT BATTLES, CO2 CAR RACES
Thanks to a grant provided by UNITE, campers were able to gain hands-on experience in CAD (computer aided design), 3D printing, programming and other key engineering skills. Campers assembled and tuned their own 3D printers — which they were able to take home with them after the camp — and used a combination of 3D printing and woodworking to build robots and CO2 cars. As campers were taught different design and fabrication techniques, they were also exposed to the entrepreneurial mindset, a key emphasis in the School of Engineering’s DesignSpine curriculum.
June 10, 2022 - R.B. Annis School of Engineering Kicks-Off Summer 3D Printing Camp
The Summer 2022 Engineering Day Camp welcomed a dozen young engineers to the University of Indianapolis R.B. Annis School of Engineering this week. Students will explore the field of engineering through hands-on projects and lessons led by UIndy engineering faculty.

May 2022 - Dr. Saqib named Research Fellows Coordinator
Dr. Najmus Saqib has been named as the next Research Fellows Coordinator at the University of Indianapolis. Dr. Saqib will oversee the Research Fellows program housed in the Ron & Laura Strain Honors College. The focus of the Research Fellows program is to engage promising undergraduate students in research experiences during their first two years at UIndy.
April 26, 2022 - Engineering Students Win National Robotics Battle
For the second year in a row, a team of students from the R.B. Annis School of Engineering won at the National Robotic Challenge World Championship. This year, the team won multiple awards. The team won the Ultimate Combat Robot Battle Royale, where all battle robots from universities across the nation battled it out in a free-for-all melee. The UIndy Greyhound robot was the only robot left standing at the end of the competition which was hosted in Marion, OH.

April 22, 2022 - UIndy Engineering Students Compete Shark Tank-style in 4th Annual Business Pitch Competition
The R.B. Annis School of Engineering held its fourth annual Business Pitch Competition. Four teams, composed of UIndy engineering students, designed, produced, and presented products to a collection of judges in an attempt to earn investments, similar to the popular competition show, Shark Tank. The competition was powered by support from Elevate Nexus.
December 2021 - Engineering STudent Matutes Selected as Shaheen Scholar
Joan Matutes has been selected as a Shaheen Scholar for her proposal titled The Effect of Finite Element Mesh Style and Size on Nano-Optic Computational Electromagnetic Simulations. Research advisor Dr. Herzog and Joan Matutes gratefully acknowledge the gift provided by Yvonne and Riad Shaheen to support this work at the University of Indianapolis.
December 2021 - Dr. Haque publishes in Scientific Reports of Springer Nature
Dr. Md Haque’s paper titled “An mCARE study on patterns of risk and resilience for children with ASD in Bangladesh” has been published in Scientific Reports of Springer Nature. Dr. Haque served as a co-PI on the NIH funded project.

November 2021 - Dr. Herzog's Research group publishes paper in the Journal of Nanophotonics
The work is titled “Plasmonic enhancement of photobrightening in CdSe quantum dots”. The experimental work was conducted by Dr. French, and UIndy undergraduate student Meredith Magee made significant contributions to getting this work published.

November 2021 - Dr. Reid publishes in THE International Journal of Engineering Education
Dr. Reid’s paper titled “A Quantitative Analysis of First-Year Engineering Students’ Engineering-Related Motivational Beliefs” has been published in the International Journal of Engineering Education.

October 1, 2021 - Dr. SAQIB publishes review paper in the journal of the electrochemical society
Dr. Saqib’s review paper titled “Operando Optical Spectroscopy Studies of Batteries” has been published in the Journal of The Electrochemical Society. Dr. Saqib co-authored the paper with collaborators from Colorado School of Mines.

October 2021 - Dr. Reid publishes in Advances in Engineering Education
Dr. Reid’s paper titled “Looking Ahead: From Driving Cars in The Lobby to Online: Using Open Creative Expression to Understand Student Emotions About Transitioning to Remote Instruction During the COVID-19 Crisis” has been published in Advances in Engineering Education. Dr. Reid co-authored the paper with collaborators from Virginia Tech.

September 14, 2021 - R.B. Annis School of Engineering receives NSF grant funding
The University of Indianapolis’ R.B. Annis School of Engineering recently received a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to connect high school students and teachers to the field of engineering. The funds are part of a larger $4 million grant distribution made to UIndy and partnering institutions including Arizona State University, Morgan State University, and the University of Maryland.

September 7, 2021 - Engineering and Sociology Research Team Recognized as Best Paper Finalist at 2021 Engineering Education Conference
Dr. Megan Hammond, assistant professor in the R.B. Annis School of Engineering; Dr. Joan Martinez, assistant professor in the R.B. Annis School of Engineering; and Dr. Elizabeth Ziff, assistant professor of sociology, were recognized this July at the 128th Annual Conference of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).

Students at the R.B. Annis School of Engineering at the University of Indianapolis had the chance to apply their skills to solve a real-world problem with a far-reaching impact. The Annis School partnered with the Indianapolis-based Institute for Affordable Transport (IAT), which connects communities in developing countries with basic transportation and vehicles that feature robust and simple designs.

December 14, 2020 - R.B. Annis School of Engineering moving to expanded space
Starting this month, the R.B. Annis School of Engineering will begin moving into the newly renovated R.B. Annis Hall located at 3750 Shelby St. The larger facility on Shelby St. will accommodate the engineering programs and address their space-related needs. The new space also allows the school’s DesignSpine component to expand beyond its original footprint and meet growing demand.

October 22, 2020 - R.B. Annis School of Engineering catapults for a cause
On Thursday, October 22 the UIndy campus community joined the R.B. Annis School of Engineering for Catapult for a Cause. Engineering faculty and students built two trebuchets and launched objects across Key Stadium. The event was two-fold: one part competition for engineering students and one-part fundraiser. R.B. Annis School of Engineering received a 2020 Elevate Nexus Higher Education Grant for $50,000 to support program curriculum and entrepreneurship throughout the University. September 2020 - Dr. Haque receives distinguished paper award
Dr. Haque’s paper on quantifying post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among Rohingya refugees using Bayesian Regulatory Networks has received the distinguished paper award in the Proceedings of the ACM on Interactive, Mobile, Wearable and Ubiquitous Technologies (IMWUT). The paper is titled “Two Tell-tale Perspectives of PTSD: Neurobiological Abnormalities and Bayesian Regulatory Network of The Underlying Disorder in A Refugee Context”.
September 2020 - Dr. Haque publishes in JMIR Medical Informatics
Dr. Haque’s work on sepsis prediction has been accepted in the Journal of Medical Internet Research. The title of the paper is “Unpacking Prevalence and Dichotomy in qSOFA and SIRS: A Data-driven Approach backed by Sepsis Pathophysiology”.
August 20, 2020 - R.B. Annis School of Engineering students publish their research

The University of Indianapolis will graduate its first class of engineering students this May. There will be 20 total students graduating in the engineering program, with 12 of those students graduating with degrees that are up for accreditation. Dr. Haque has just published in Optica journal (Impact Factor 9.263) titled “mHealth spectroscopy of blood hemoglobin with spectral super-resolution”. Dr. Haque is one of the directors of Manush Manusher Jonyo (Human for Human) Foundation, a 501c registered charity organization. February 26, 2020 - Dr. Stanley publishes in Materials Research Express
Building upon the work of his former colleagues, Dr. Stanley recently published a novel method of calculating the specific heat at constant pressure completely from first principles. The paper is titled "Specific heat at constant pressure from first principles: contributions from fully anharmonic vibrations."
January 31, 2020 - Dr. Stanley publishes in the Journal of Applied Physics
While working with his former PhD advisor and collaborators in Germany, Dr. Stanley recently published work identifying the donor and acceptor levels of defects in semiconductors. The work is titled "Identification of the donor and acceptor states of the bond-centered Hydrogen-Carbon pair in Si and SiGe alloys."

January 11, 2020 - R. B. Annis School of Engineering Hosts First Robotics Competition Kickoff Event
The R. B. Annis School of Engineering hosted the annual FIRST Robotics Competition Kickoff Event in early January. Dozens of high school students from around the state received their challenge to design, build, program and test a robot within six weeks.

September 11, 2019 - Engineering Students Intern at DOD Research Labs
Two R.B. Annis School of Engineering students are back on campus after completing summer internships with the Department of Defense. Meredith Magee participated in the High-Performance Computing Internship Program through the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio; and Miles Furr participated in the Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program at the Oceana Annex Base in Dam Neck, Virginia.

August 1, 2019 - Dr. Herzog publishes in a Nature partner journal
In collaboration with one of his former graduate students from the University of Arkansas, Dr. Debu, Dr. Herzog has recently published in npj 2D Materials and Applications, a Nature Partner Journal (npj) titled "Hyperbolic plasmon-phonon dispersion on group velocity reversal and tunable spontaneous emission in graphene-ferroelectric substrate."
July 2, 2019 - Dr. Sarker and Dr. Saqib receive the InQuery Collaborative Grant
Dr. MD Rashedul H. Sarker and Dr. Najmus Saqib’s project titled “Design and Construction of an Experimental Setup for Science and Engineering Mechanics” has been selected for a 2019 InQuery Collaborative Grant Program by the Office of Grants & Sponsored Programs and the Internal Grants Committee. Congratulations!
June 21, 2019 - Dr. Herzog publishes with UIndy undergraduates
In collaboration with researchers at the University of Arkansas, Dr. Herzog and UIndy undergraduate students, Miles Furr and Meredith Magee, have recently co-authored a paper titled “Effect of incidence and sidewall taper angles on plasmonic metal–semiconductor–metal photodetector enhancements” in the Journal of the Optical Society of America B. The first-author on the paper is Dr. Ahmad Darweesh a former graduate student of Dr. Herzog from the University of Arkansas.

Dr. Herzog has been selected to serve as a Faculty Development Fellow for the 2019-2020 academic year. As noted on the Faculty Development website: "Faculty Fellows are specially selected faculty from across the University who offer workshops and consulting to individuals and departments as they also seek to grow their own strengths as faculty developers."

Dr. Olawale has been nominated and honored as an Inspiration on Campus at the Inspire UIndy event that challenged students to talk about people who have had an impact on their life.
April 14, 2019 - Engineering Student Places at UIndy Scholars Showcase
Miles Furr, a double major in Software Engineering and Computer Science, placed in second at the Scholars Showcase at UIndy for his oral presentation titled “Surface-enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) with Subnanometer-Gap Metasurfaces.” Other contributors to the presentation include Meredith Magee, a Software Engineering major, and Dr. J. B. Herzog, his research advisor.
April 4, 2019 - Engineering Students Earn Top Awards At ASEE Conference
Twenty engineering students and ten engineering faculty attended the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Illinois-Indiana Section Conference for 2019 hosted by the University of Evansville in March. From a field that included students from universities from around the region including Purdue University, students from the R.B. Annis School of Engineering at the University of Indianapolis took home both first- and second-place poster presentation awards.

The R.B. Annis School of Engineering has hired four new Assistant Professors: Suranga Dharmarathne, Joseph B. Herzog, George Ricco, and Najmus Saqib. Additionally the school now is happy to have James Emery as the Manager of Mechanical Systems & Laboratories and Renny Fernandez as a Visiting Assistant Professor.
