Sigma Phi Omega
Sigma Phi Omega (SPO), the national academic honor and professional society in gerontology, was established in 1980 to recognize excellence among those who study gerontology and aging, and the outstanding service of professionals who work with or on behalf of older people. SPO seeks to promote scholarship, professionalism, friendship and services to older adults, and to recognize exemplary attainment in gerontology/aging studies and related fields.
Opportunities for Service, Education and Networking
The UIndy chapter of SPO, Delta Mu, is dedicated to serving the aging and to those interested in the pursuit of gerontology education. Our sponsorship of the annual Careers in Aging Week on the UIndy campus is designed to share information through a variety of fun and educational events about the multitude of career paths available to those who wish to work with older adults.
Each year Delta Mu welcomes new members - gerontology students who demonstrate exceptional scholarship, as well as university colleagues and professionals who give notable service in the field of aging.
Members of the chapter also have an opportunity each year to participate in a service project and/or education event designed to improve the lives of older adults.
Student Officers
The positions for SPO student officers in Delta Mu Chapter include president and vice president. Student officer nominations are accepted year-round. To nominate or self-nominate for a student officer role, contact the Delta Mu Chapter Advisor (see below).
