Richard M. Fairbanks Symposium on Civic Leadership Feb. 5

Symposium to explore arts and urban renewal

While leveraging sports to raise Indianapolis’ profile, city leaders since the 1960s also have employed the arts in their revitalization efforts. On Feb. 5, the past, present and future of public art in the American city is the focus of a day of expert discussion at the University of Indianapolis.

Building Vibrant Cities Through Art is the third Richard M. Fairbanks Symposium on Civic Leadership, presented by UIndy’s Institute for Civic Leadership & Mayoral Archives in partnership with Indiana Humanities and the Arts Council of Indianapolis.

Featuring local and national arts leaders, the event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 5, opening with lunch in UIndy’s Schwitzer Student Center and closing with a reception in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center.

Student Stories

Going the Distance

It may be hard to feel close to someone who is 8,372 miles away, but junior Henrieta Muradzikwa, a Zimbabwe native, says that the personal attention she received from UIndy’s Office of Admissions and the campus community is what drew her to the University.

In the weekend’s first two events, juniors Melissa Rios (7.97 seconds) and Quinntyn Qualls (6.91 seconds) each finished third in the women’s and men’s 60 meter dash, respectively. The two were also the Greyhounds best finishers in 200 meter dash, with Qualls placing third (22.39 seconds) and Rios finishing in fourth (26.83 seconds).
