Faculty & Staff Resources

The University of Indianapolis is committed to providing equal opportunity to its academic programs and ensuring its campus is free of discrimination and harassment.  The university believes a rich diversity of people and points of view enhances the quality of the education.  This commitment to a diverse and inclusive learning environment includes providing equal access for students with disabilities. As a UIndy faculty or staff member, you are an important partner in this endeavor and the information on this website will provide an introduction to your role in ensuring the university meets its commitment.

This section of the SSD website is designed for faculty and staff who work with students with disabilities at UIndy. Please use the links at the bottom of the page to find valuable resources which will help you to understand, teach, and work with students with disabilities.

Important actions and information to keep in mind:

  1. Include a statement about disabilities on your syllabus each semester. See the Sample Syllabi Statements link.
  2. Provide disability modifications/accommodations ONLY after the student provides you with a Memo from SSD.  If a student gives you disability documentation, do not accept it and instead refer the student to the SSD office in Schwitzer 206 or via phone at (317) 788-6153.
  3. Meet privately with the student to discuss the arrangements for specific modifications or accommodations for your course.
  4. Hold the student to the same academic and classroom standards and expectations as other students.
  5. Review information on the SSD website (www.uindy.edu/ssd) and call SSD (317) 788-2140 with questions and concerns.
