This Inauguration event, with two seatings to allow the maximum number of attendees, provides an opportunity for students to visit with the president. The students have planned a special presentation to Dr. Pitts during the 6:00 p.m. seating.

'Passport to Service'
Fountain Square community and the University of Indianapolis campus

This campus-wide day of service offers the campus community multiple opportunities for faculty-designed, hands-on service on campus, in the classroom, and in Indianapolis's Fountain Square community, five miles north of campus. The University's motto is 'Education for Service,' and the president's inauguration offers an outstanding opportunity to recognize that heritage. The University is deeply engaged in service activities on a regular basis in the Fountain Square community.

Dr. Pitts will host Inauguration Travel Grant recipients, their families, and international delegates.

4:00–5:00 p.m.

'Passport to the World' Travel Grant Award Winners Announcement

The "Passport to the World" travel grant awards were designed as part of the festivities surrrounding the inauguration of Dr. Beverley J. Pitts as eighth president of the University of Indianapolis. As stated in its mission, the University is committed to fostering "international relationships and programs that promote intercultural understanding, awareness, and appreciation," as well as "a campus culture that embraces and celebrates human diversity." In that spirit, the "Passport to the World" grants offer a select number of its students the opportunity to travel internationally, with the University's affiliated sites in Belize, China, Greece, Israel, South Africa, and Taiwan serving as natural springboards to cultural exploration. Students from the University of Indianapolis-Athens campus who receive a grant may include the United States among their travel options.

Investiture Ceremony

Representatives from the United Methodist Church, the community, and campus constituencies will bring greetings to President Pitts, Board of Trustees chair Christel DeHaan will perform the rite of investiture, and Dr. Pitts will offer her inaugural address.

5:15–7:00 p.m.

'Passport to Celebration' Reception
Ober Main Dining Hall & Atrium, Schwitzer Student Center

The campus community and guests are cordially invited to celebrate the inauguration of Dr. Pitts at this reception in her honor. Refreshments will be served, including hors d'ouevres appropriate to the University's international orientation. Music provided by jazz trio Baker, Case, and Woods.
