UIndy President Beverley Pitts begins term as vice chair of NCAA Div. II Presidents Council
University of Indianapolis President Beverley Pitts has been elected to serve as vice chair of the Division II Presidents Council, effective September 1, 2008.
Pitts has been a member of the Division II Presidents Council since January 2007. She will fulfill a one-year renewable term as vice chair; her term on the Council runs through January 2011.
The Council’s vice chair serves as a member of the NCAA Executive Committee and chairs the Division II Budget and Finance Committee (which includes reporting to the Convention on the division’s financial affairs) and is a member of the Division II Administrative Committee.
Pitts assumed the presidency at Indianapolis in July 2005 after being the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Ball State University, where she also served as acting president.
She also served in other capacities at Ball State, including as associate provost, assistant provost, director of academic assessment and director of general studies. Pitts was also founding chair of the department of communication at Anderson University.
In addition to her educational career, she has been active as a practicing journalist. She has been a staff writer, researcher and communications consultant for the National Football League Players Association in Washington, D.C. Results of her research with the NFLPA have appeared in more than 30 newspapers and magazines including USA Today, Newsday, Football Digest, and Sports Medicine.
She has a bachelor of arts degree from Anderson University, as well as a master’s in journalism and a doctorate in higher education from Ball State.
