Dr. Rachel Smith, assistant professor of finance in UIndy’s School of Business, was interviewed by local NBC affiliate WTHR on Wednesday about the apparent resurgence of layaway offers in the retail world.

Smith said the trend indicates that businesses expect another sluggish holiday shopping season.

“Retailers are doing whatever they can to boost those sales and they’re trying to make it easy and flexible and convenient,” she said.
