How to Apply For Financial Aid

Applying for financial aid is an important part of preparing for graduate school. Follow the steps below to begin the process.

STEP 1: FILE YOUR FAFSA

The first step in the financial aid process is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It’s not just for undergraduate students! The FAFSA is the key application for federal, state, and university aid. You must file the FAFSA every year at fafsa.gov. Make sure to include federal school code 001804 so that we can receive your official results.

The FAFSA typically opens on October 1 each year. However, the 2025-26 FAFSA should be open by early December 2024. To complete the FAFSA, you (and your spouse, if you are married) will need a Federal Student Aid ID, your social security number (or alien ID number), and your tax information. For more helpful tips on how to complete your FAFSA as quickly and easily as possible, visit the FAFSA’s How to Fill Out the FAFSA Form webpage.

STEP 2:

If you’ve been selected for federal verification, submit your required information to UIndy. Visit our verification page to learn more.
