Polk Food Service
“The answer is yes, what’s the question?”
That’s the motto of Ted Polk, director and owner of Polk Food Service, Inc. He’s in charge of making sure his staff goes out of its way to make your UIndy dining experience satisfying and enjoyable. UIndy is PFS’s only client, so personal service is guaranteed. By listening and responding to the wants, needs and likes of the students, Polk and his staff keep them the top priority.
What can students expect from PFS?
Variety
PFS services the UIndy Marketplace, Grab ‘N Go, Sub Hub, Fiesta Grill, Streets Grill and The Perk. Each dining option offers home-cooked, healthy and appetizing meals that are prepared daily. With that kind of variety, there's something for everyone and students will not get bored with the selection.
Most popular meal on campus: Chicken Breast; PFS serves about 2,500 pieces of chicken weekly.
Favorite place to eat in Streets Corner: It’s too close to call between the Sub Hub and Fiesta Grill
Favorite meal to prepare: The PFS staff loves preparing for special events. Whether it’s Asian night for the Chinese Student Association or Italian Bistro for Career Services, the staff enjoys preparing new menus for themed nights.
Freshness
PFS menus rotate on a four week schedule of meals so there’s always a new meal that has been planned, prepared and served to students each
day. PFS keeps its selection fresh by purchasing many of its produce, meat and dairy products from local farms as often as possible.
Where does the Perk get all of its baked goodies? PFS prepares each scone, muffin and cookie in its bakery every morning.
What are some healthy choices for students? The salad bar is always stocked with fresh ingredients and pasta or vegetable salads that are made daily. Vegan, vegetarian and heart healthy meals are also available every day in the marketplace.
How can students identify healthy options? PFS labels their menu options for students’ convenience.
Personal Touches
PFS staff members are eager to respond to student requests. Just email Ted, or drop a comment in the suggestion box at the front of the Marketplace.
Food allergies? PFS staff work with students who have food allergies by meeting with them one-on-one to develop a year-long menu plan.
Miss mom's cooking? Students (and even parents) are encouraged to submit favorite recipes from home to enjoy while staying on campus.
Celebrations! PFS hosts a number of special events throughout the year, including traditional sit-down Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, a Fat Tuesday celebration and an Easter brunch.
