What our volunteers do

During Spring Term 2005, Computer Information Systems major Uche Unogu travelled to Upper Sands Mountain in Sylvania, Alabama with Jeff Bryant's Service Learning class. During its time there, the class helped rebuild homes and established relationships with the people of Upper Sands Mountain and with their peers. Here's what Uche had to say about this trip:

"The project was fun and a valuable experience for me mostly because of the strong relationships I built with the other students I went with. I went there with the heart and intention to help the locals there and it benefitted me too because I came back with friends who had literally turned to brothers and sisters. We see each other on campus and it feels like we have a strong bond. A lot of us have gone on to organize thriving bible studies on campus."

Uche will visiti Lagos, Nigeria in May 2007 on a service trip with Kevin Good, who also went on the trip to Sylvania. In Nigeriea, they will serve high school students and young pastors Uche hopes there are many other trips like these in his future here at UIndy.
