Communications & Marketing, as a University-wide strategic partner, offers creative and innovative solutions to uphold and strengthen the University’s reputation, image and values.

  • We are brand ambassadors, story-tellers and champions.
  • We provide leadership, counsel and expertise to anticipate and meet internal and external client needs to reach admissions, advancement and community engagement goals.

In order to provide the best service available and form a lasting relationship with our clients, we have assigned a liaison to each University department. Each department will have one contact person to communicate with for communications or marketing needs. Your unit liaison provides the highest level of client service to meet the needs of each department and the University.

Background
As Vice President of Communications and Marketing at the University of Indianapolis Jeanette leads a university-wide integrated marketing and communications strategy and change process to advance admissions, advancement and institutional reputation. She and her team deliver high quality, intentional and creative solutions to raise awareness and appreciation for the University including a comprehensive, outcomes focused solutions.

The American Marketing Association’s 2014 Higher Education Marketer of the Year, Jeanette is known for her creativity and innovation in building outcomes-focused higher education marketing and communications teams with a philosophy that “creativity takes courage.” Previously, she served as associate vice president for integrated marketing and communications at Florida State University. Providing counsel for executive leadership and a network of 150 campus communicators, Jeanette led the university’s development and implementation of communication policies and strategy, integrated marketing, digital communications, social and media relations, brand development, issues management, and creative services. During her tenure, she led the successful navigation of several high-profile crisis management situations of national interest.

Jeanette has extensive marketing and communications, media relations, and digital media experience in the private and public sectors in the U.S. and the United Kingdom. She has led the process of establishing communications infrastructures, services, and brand development processes for several institutions. Jeanette is a frequent presenter at conferences, and as a consultant she has helped universities, including Fresno State, discover how to build and sustain effective marketing and communications strategies using internal resources, collaborative networks, and ROI. For her change management, alumni relations, and brand development strategies at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, she and her staff earned the inaugural Best Marketing Team in Higher Education Award from the American Marketing Association, as well as the CASE Region V Teresa Du Bois Exline Award for “Best Practices in Communications and Marketing.” She and her teams have received recognition and a number of national and regional honors from CASE and the American Marketing Association, and American Advertising Federation.

Past roles include establishing Wales’ “first” business incubator dedicated to accelerate the growth of the country’s digital media sector, supporting more than 500 startups providing business development support; military public affairs as a civilian contractor for the 1st Infantry Division during Operation Desert Storm; public relations for the Hoffman Agency’s cornerstone account with Hewlett-Packard; and several positions in journalism and public relations.

As a subject-matter expert, Jeanette provides strategic communications counsel, training, brand, change management and issues management expertise to executive and academic leadership.

Kelly Hauflaire

Background
Kelly leads the recruitment and marketing strategies for UIndy’s undergraduate, graduate and adult learning programs. Prior to her role at UIndy, Kelly spent 11 years at Ivy Tech Community College where she most recently served as Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communications and led the marketing, branding and recruitment communication strategies for the state of Indiana’s largest college system. Early in her career, she also served as Program Manager for Communications and Media Relations at the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration where she managed proactive outreach and media relations strategies.

Jen Hiatt

Background
As part of the creative team, Jen creates original layouts and designs for a variety of print media and digital platforms to enhance the institution’s visual image and strategic initiatives. Prior to her role at UIndy, Jen led a team of designers as Art Director for the City of Orlando Communications and Neighborhood Relations team. Early in her career, she worked as a visual designer in the Sports Department at the Tampa Bay Times, Florida's largest newspaper.

David Hosick

Background
David Hosick spent nearly 13 years as a working journalist, both for newspapers and TV. This allowed for many opportunities to tell wonderful stories of both tragedy and triumph. He still enjoys interacting with the media, who he sees as serving an important role as watchdog and storytellers.

Journalism provided a sound foundation for David to develop his communications and public relations career. The opportunity to deal with diverse audiences helped to prepare him for the diverse culture and audiences that exist on a college campus. Upon leaving the media, he transitioned to a communications role in higher education, where he led communications strategy and media relations for an urban university. From there, he served as the senior public relations manager for a company in the finance industry. In this role, David led the public relations strategy for the company’s Indiana operations and internal communications for more than 1,200 employees.

In his current role as Director of Communications and Content Strategies for the University of Indianapolis, David leads a team in telling the University’s story of service, tradition and impact. Through traditional and social media, the Communications team leverages the stories of success from students and faculty to support the University brand. He also leads the internal communication efforts for faculty and staff and collaborates with the University President’s Office for executive communications.

D. Todd Moore

Background
Award-winning photographer with pictures published in over a half dozen books and in numerous national and international publications, including Time magazine, The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, The Washington Post, and USA Today. Prior to coming to UIndy, D. Todd Moore was a photographer, Photo Operations Manager and senior Administrative Editor with The Indianapolis Star. He has been a staff photographer at UIndy for three years, but has taught Photojournalism as an adjunct for about fifteen years and has been doing freelance photography at the University for over 20 years.

Trisha Smith

Background
Trisha Smith leads the marketing and branding efforts for the University including marketing strategy for new programs, summer classes and camps. In her previous role, she spent more than a decade in the advertising agency industry working with regional and national clients in higher education, hospitality, food/beverage and retail industry. Trisha led agency creative teams to develop unique national sponsorships, strategic marketing plans and media buys for her clients.

Background

Laura joined UIndy in 2013 with more than 25 years of administrative assistant experience. She was recently promoted to Executive Assistant and Business Operations Specialist. In this role, Laura provides executive administrative support for the Vice President, coordinates the division’s operations and processes, and supervises administrative processes including finance, human resources, vendors, and communications and marketing. She also serves as a liaison for the university community for matters that may escalate to the office of the Vice President.

Jen Zentz

Jen Zentz began working at UIndy in 2012 and has nearly 10 years of experience in communications and marketing. In her current role, she manages integrated marketing and communication strategies for the University's Office of Advancement including Alumni Engagement, Development and the Professional Edge Center.
