Background

Dr. Brocksen has been a faculty member in public and private universities for the past twelve years (both adjunct and full time) and has taught and managed programs on both the BSW and MSW levels.

In addition to classroom teaching experience, Dr. Brocksen has extensive experience working in the fields of women’s health, public policy and research. Before returning to higher education for her doctorate, Dr. Brocksen provided support, education and counseling with a Planned Parenthood clinic serving low income women and children.  Dr. Brocksen served as a Legislative Assistant in the California State Assembly, preparing reports for the Human Services Committee and conducting legislative analyses for Assemblywoman Dion Aroner. Before taking a full time academic position, Dr. Brocksen had a three year fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta.  As an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Health Scientist Fellow, Dr. Brocksen was responsible for the operations of the largest developmental disabilities monitoring network in the nation.

Dr. Brocksen is a fan of the Whedonverse and has two dogs named Milhouse and Jayne Cobb.  She has been sky diving and does not like to cook but will do almost anything for a Diet Pepsi.

Background
Professional experience working with older adults in long-term care facilities. Was Executive Director of two adoption agencies, one of which housed a residential program for teen mothers, and an MSW Field Specialist with Indiana University School of Social Work for four years. Recipient of the Phylis Lan Lin Program in Social Work Field Instructor of the Year in 2008 and received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2011 from Marian University.

Background
Serves as a full-time professor in the Master of Social Work (MSW) program. Previously an adjunct professor for UIndy's Department of Social Work, School for Adult Learning, and Center for Aging and Community, as well as at Indiana University School of Social Work. Has extensive experience in the macro social work practice area. Most recently served as associate director of Operations and Programming for The Church Federation of Greater Indianapolis, a faith-based not-for-profit organization based in Indianapolis. Additionally, she was employed as director of Public Engagement and Community Outreach at Lutheran Child & Family Services of IN/KY.

Has served as deputy director of the Office of Community Planning and Contract Management for the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration and as commissioner for the Indiana State Board of Tax Commissioners in Indiana state government. Has provided planning and program development services to not-for-profit and faith-based organizations as a consultant in private practice. Has worked in a variety of clinical social work positions in Indianapolis, Indiana; Atlanta, Georgia and Cleveland Ohio. She has also worked in mental health settings as well as with many diverse populations including children and families, the aged and aging.

Favorite thing about UIndy
